Teaching from a Biblical World View seminar is coming to the mid-cities and Weatherford. This seminar is appropriate for home schoolers teaching children of all ages, but will place special focus on high school instruction. Dana Tillman will discuss teaching strategies, analyze the philosophical backgrounds of various world views competing for our allegiance today, and introduce World Views of the Western World (WVWW)*. He will explain how this combines an excellent teaching strategy with solid Biblical instruction to produce a comprehensive high school curriculum.
The following is a rough outline of the topics to be covered in the seminar:
• Understanding World Views: How do we understand the competing world views around us? More importantly, how do we teach that understanding to our high schoolers? This topic defines and analyzes world views and helps the parent and student recognize the world views in the books and curriculum they choose.
• Teaching Classical Education from a Biblical World View: Many conservative educators believe that classical education is the best approach to teaching our children. But is classical education the goal, or is the goal to have our children well-grounded in a Biblical world view with the best education possible? This topic will also include information on the transformation of a culture, which describes how philosophical thoughts move from the Realm of Ideas into Cultural Realities that affect the way we live. Christianity dramatically affected western culture. Ideas hostile to Christianity have made huge changes in the last two centuries. How can we use the resources available to us today to teach our children from a Biblical world view and thus transform the culture in which we live?
• How to Teach a WVWW Class: This will be a short, to-the-point, how-to presentation with plenty of time for questions. This topic will cover how to prepare for the classes, class size, grading assignments, transcripts, speech, debate, and the Propaganda game.
* World Views of the Western World is a comprehensive, classical, high school curriculum developed by David Quine. It incorporates the thoughts and ideas of Dr. Francis Schaeffer. Dana has been teaching this curriculum in the McKinney area for twelve years. Mark Woolsey will be teaching classes this fall for first-year students in Weatherford and the mid-cities.
