2014 Masquerade Ball

2014 Masquerade Ball

Masquerade Ball
For 2013 – 2014

The setting of our ball this year is a Masquerade Ball in celebration of the opening of the Palais Garnier or the Theatre de l'Opera. It is 1870 Paris, France, the time depicted in the novel, Phantom of the Opera. Characters coming to the ball are both fictional from the novel, and historical characters of the time period that would have come to the Opera House. Fictional characters from the movie are reserved for the Seniors on a first come first serve basis. All other students can come as a historical character that would have been old enough to attend a ball in 1870 (at least 14 years old). The Opera House serves as a socio-economic microcosm of Parisian life; every generation and every tier of Parisian society is represented and may have come to the ball, from dancers, aristocrats, merchants, politicians, artists, writers, actors, composers and musicians.

Each Character must be submitted for approval and will be awarded on a first come basis. Please submit at least three characters in case your first choice is already taken. Characters may be submitted at 10:00 PM on October 31st. NO EARLIER.

Submit character request to [email protected]. The characters will be awarded based on the order they appear in the mail box.

Who is invited?

The guest list is limited to all students currently enrolled in World View Classes, and associate classes, and alumni of the Classes. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend, but costumes are required!!

The Assignment:

Each student will research and recreate an historical figure from the year 1870 fulfilling the requirements given above. All students will write a 5 paragraph biography due the week of January 6, 2014. The outline of the biography is as follows:

Paragraph 3

Paragraph 4
Explain the effect of their life and accomplishments on others, for example their family, hometown, our country, or even the world!

Paragraph 5
Conclusion -- Give the date and place of death. Include a summary statement about your character. Include a statement about why you were drawn to this character.

Some students will not be able to attend due to conflicts in their schedules.
