Submit character request to [email protected]. The characters will be awarded based on the order they appear in the mail box.
Who is invited?
The guest list is limited to all students currently enrolled in World View Classes, and associate classes, and alumni of the Classes. Some special invited guests will be admitted with Mr. Tillman' approval. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend, but costumes are required!!
The Assignment:
Each student that is currently enrolled in the classes is required to research and recreate a historical character that actually lived during this time period somewhere in the West and could have possibly attended one of these balls. The character must be between the ages of 15 and 90 during the period of 1849 and 1899. All students will research and write a five paragraph biography of their character.
Paragraph 1 Introduce your character. Describe the person that your biography is about. Tell what this person is most famous for.
Paragraph 2 Give your character's background, such as: date and place of birth, hardships, education, childhood, family, influences in their life and other important information.
Paragraph 3 Give details about the most special achievement or achievements that makes this person important in American Western History. If your character is not specifically from America, explain what ties them to this country and their role in the west.
Paragraph 4 Explain the effect of their life and accomplishments on others, for example their family, hometown, our country, or even the world!
Paragraph 5 Conclusion -- Give the date and place of death. Include a summary statement about your character. Include a statement about why you were drawn to this character.
Alumni and Parents attending the Ball are asked to conform to the guidelines of the characters and costumes, but they do not have to turn in any biographies.
