Literary Ball
For 2010 – 2011
It
is time for our Annual Costume Ball! The theme this year is a Literary
Ball. The literary work should have been written before 1950, whose
setting is from 1500 – 1915.
There are a few guidelines for your character selection. They
are as follows: The literary work must have been written before 1950. The Setting or the time period depicted in the book must be
between the years 1500 and 1915. All characters must be human. (No monsters, vampires, or
animals.) No fantasy or science fiction literature. Select characters from books not authors of books. Each Character must be submitted for approval and will be
awarded on a first come basis. Please submit at least three
characters in case your first choice is already taken. Submit character request to theball@worldviewclasses.com. The
characters will be awarded based on the order they appear in
the mail box.
Since all of our
guests will be wearing period costumes, we look forward to seeing a
wide variety of characters represented at the Ball.
Who is invited?
The
guest list is limited to all students currently enrolled in World View
Classes, and associate classes, alumni of the Classes. Parents are also
welcome and encouraged to attend, but remember the costume!
The
Assignment:
Each student will research and recreate a literary character
from a literary work fulfilling the requirements given above. All
students will write a one to two page book report due January 3, 2011.
The outline of the book report is as follows:
I. Introduce book and author.
Give bibliographic information on
the book.
II. Give a plot summary of the book in
one paragraph.
III. Make a character list of the main
characters of the book. No
more than
ten characters should be included. List the character
name and
three or four sentences describing that character.
IV. In one paragraph, describe your
character's role in the book.
Some students will not be able to attend due to conflicts in their
schedules. Those students are still required to research a character
and write the book report.
Alumni and parents attending the Ball are asked to conform to the
guidelines of the characters, but will not be required to turn in book
reports.
